It seems like a lifetime ago. 2013: I tried to kill myself, threatened to kill my parents, got involuntarily admitted to 5East (VA Psych ward), and lived five months in a homeless shelter. Fast forward to now with two months left in this decade and a whole new ten years to look forward to.
I’m still a little off in the head,
But the medication helps SO much, and thanks to VA disability, I now own my own house and get free health care (physical and mental). The solitude my home has given me has allowed me to pursue my passion for writing, which is the best medicine of all.
So, if you hear anyone talking sh*! about how the VA is letting down veterans by not being there for them, please send them my way. I would love to tell them my story. Thanks for reading. I just had to get that off my chest.
