Scene Writing Song Saturday

This weekend I’m writing my main characters downward spiral scene, and this is one of the songs that I’m going to have playing, loudly in the background. Reminds me of my ‘Fu** Everything’ stage of my youth. Did you ever go through one of those stages? If so, what music and books were guiding you along that tightrope?

  1. I don’t think I was an angry teenager, (emotional, definitely) but music has always been a huge player in my life, helping me along the way. However, there’s been some very tough times to get through during the past 10-12 years particularly, that I couldn’t have got through without that escape that music gives you. I’d alternate between some head-banging stuff by my favourite band, Muse or the yin to the yang of music by Gretchen Peters & a couple of other singer/songwriters whose music I love. One channeled the anger, the other soothes my soul & made me realise that I wasn’t alone, & the characters in the stories were also going through a bad or worse time than me..all very cathartic. I still love their music & listen regularly.

Ooh, the downward spiral. Always an exciting moment; best of luck with the writing.
Skillet and Matchbox 20 were the bands that resonated with me most when I was working out those individuality kinks. They’re the ones that still ring true today.
(P.S.: Gave your song a listen, sounds perfect for a moral breakdown.)
